I have been programming now for about a decade, and that whole “How to become a programmer in 10 years” from Peter Norvig really hits home, as the Grateful Dead Bumper Sticker says: “What a long strange trip it’s been.”

I am keeping busy, still living in the South of France with my family, blogging when I can, and programming on various projects, particularly a Point of Sale system in production and being actively sold, so that keeps me pretty busy.

I have expanded my active working languages, and am using C++, Javascript, PHP, and Ruby all on the same project. Now that performance is becoming more critical, the flaws in Rails are really beginning to show, and I already regret it as the framework of choice for the project. Should have written it in PHP.
